PROGRAMS
Power Center Academy (Derwin Sisnett, Contact)
Power Center Academy will be a charter middle school (grades 6-8) that will serve students in Hickory Hill and surrounding areas. The mission of the Power Center Academy (PCA) is to develop future leaders of the community by teaching students to be innovative thinkers, problem solvers and humanitarians. PCA will achieve this mission by providing its students an educational program that is defined by rigorous curriculum standards to ensure that all students meet or exceed local, state and national academic standards and by integrating entrepreneurial projects in financial literacy and community service. PCA will open its door to sixth grade students this fall.
ARTISTIC-FLO (Maurice Mosby, Contact)
The arts provide tools for interpreting life's experiences and for developing identity and sense of self-worth. Given the tremendous impact of the arts, it is imperative that teenagers in Hickory Hill and the greater Memphis community be exposed to this medium. ARTISTIC-FLO Urban Performing Arts Group is an urban initiative outreach program designed to give high school students the opportunity to develop basic life-skills and to broaden their gifts in the areas of music, dance, and theatre. The mission of ARTISTC-FLO is to inspire teenagers to use their artistic gifts to foster love and develop growth, hope, and harmony in their lives and in the lives of others.
Power Center Entrepreneurial Institute (Kieya Taylor, Contact)
To improve the overall economic standing of Hickory Hill, the Power Center Entrepreneurial Initiative (PCEI) was launched in January 2007 to provide an alternative means of creating gainful employment and supplemental income opportunities for those who desire to become self-employed but do not have the necessary resources or training to readily accomplish the task. This initiative operates through the already existing Power Center Entrepreneurial Institute. The goal of the institute is to help create more viable and sustainable small businesses in the Hickory Hill community.
