Long-Term Solutions Found at the Intersection of Economic, Educational, and Social Development.

The Power Center Community Development Corporation is a 501(c)(3) public benefits corporation established to focus on the progression of economic, educational, and social development in the Hickory Hill Community of Memphis, TN.

The mission of the Power Center is to restore the economic, educational, and social foundation of Hickory Hill through sustainable urban development and empowering initiatives designed to instill hope, pride, and a sense of community.

The Power Center focuses on long-term solutions for the Hickory Hill community.

The primary role of the Power Center is to explore opportunities for community development and implement innovative community-wide programs. This is done primarily through careful collaboration with organizations that specialize in economic, educational or social development.

Two flagship Power Center initiatives are Power Center Schools and the PCA Town Center.

Power Center Schools

In 2008, the Power Center developed and launched Power Center Academy Middle School, a Memphis City Schools Charter School. PCA focuses on entrepreneurship, scholarship, humanitarianism, and high technology. In 2010, Memphis City Schools approved the charter for Power Center Academy High School. PCA High School will open this fall with the inaugural class of 9th grade scholars.

Since its inception, PCA Middle School has met or exceeded State proficiency, and it was the first school in the region to open a SunTrust-sponsored, youth-run bank.

PCA has been featured in numerous media outlets including the Wall Street Journal and the Commercial Appeal.

PCA Town Center

The PCA Town Center is a comprehensive community model that will include Power Center Academy middle and high schools, a performing arts center, a wellness center, housing, and retail. The planned development will be constructed over a 43-acre site on the western most side of the Hickory Hill community, which was once home to a blighted and abandoned 394-unit apartment complex.

Demolition of the site has begun and will continue through 2011. The first phase of the PCA Town Center will be completed in fall 2012.
